Our wonky path to Tarsier and the games industry

At this Pink Sunday there will be a panel encompassing five members of Tarsier Studios and they will be discussing their journey and process into the games industry. Q&A to follow.

Inspirational Session

Lina Warntoft, Programming Intern - Tarsier
Lina Warntoft (she/they) is an AI programmer intern at Tarsier Studios from Ängelholm. She is a student from The Game Assembly in Malmö - a school with close ties to the Swedish games industry. Before studying game programming, Lina pursued a bachelor's degree in astrophysics at Lund University, where she fell in love with programming. On their spare time Lina enjoys playing little atmospheric adventure games, skating and having a few beers with friends.

Valeria Kolmogorova, Programmer
Valeria Kolmogorova (she/they) is an AI programmer at Tarsier Studios. She originates from Russia and studied physics in Moscow. After getting her BSc she experienced a major identity crisis, which eventually led her to pursue their childhood dream to work in video games. Before Tarsier she used to work at Wargaming, Saint-Petersburg, but left the Russian gaming industry when Russia invaded Ukraine. Her forever gaming obsessions are Disco Elysium and Bloodborne, and she has a guilty pleasure playing dating sims and otome games.

Anna Bonnen, Animator
Anna Bonnen (they/she) lives in Malmö but is originally from Denmark. They have a bachelor's degree in Character Animation from The Animation Workshop VIA UC. For the past two years they have been working as a character animator at Tarsier Studios, this being their first job in "the industry". Their hobbies include sports, drinking decaf, wishing they had a cat, and obsessing over fictional characters. When it comes to games, they grew up playing point-and-click adventure games but lately have been getting more into quirky Dungeon Crawler hybrids like Boyfriend Dungeon and Cult of The Lamb

Johanna Velin, HR Generalist
Johanna Velin (she/her) is a HR Generalist with an educational background in Marketing (BSc) and Sustainable Leadership (MA). In her role at Tarsier she works with everything from recruitment to employee health initiatives, but takes a special interest in diversity & inclusion. When she's not at work, Johanna spends her time attempting to learn artistic gymnastics, reading/writing, playing DnD, or hanging out with friends and family. She's also been known to periodically obsess over numerous TV shows, Pokémon Go and The Sims.

Meghan Corso, Brand and Communications Manager
Meghan Corso (she/her) hails from Los Angeles, California and has been living in Malmö for the last 4 years. She received her bachelor's in Communications and Art History from Berkeley and a master’s from Harvard University in Museum Studies. Having worked with digital media and communications for the last 14 years and wanting a break from the contemporary art world, she pivoted into the gaming industry in 2020. When not at the studio you can find Meghan going on bike rides with her family, attending flea markets, and watching her favorite show, UNhhh, featuring her two favorite drag queens, Trixie and Kataya. Her favorite games to play are Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1 & 2, The Sims and Words With Friends.

Workshop: Creative coding

Learn how coding can create procedural, moving art! Procedural coding is a series of functions you code into the computer for the purpose of making a step-by-step guide to execute the task at hand. It's the perfect way to start coding creatively.

Ellie is a self-taught software engineer currently attending Malmö University’s Information Architecture program and doing freelancing work on the side. What she loves most about coding is when she gets to be creative either in design, interactivity or architecture. Not entirely a surprise as she learned to code as a kid because she wanted to make a game!

Preparations: Bring your laptop and go to https://editor.p5js.org and bring comfy socks ❣

Code language: JavaScript

Level: Intermediate - you are expected to know at the very least basic coding, including variables, loops and functions.
